Mr Mallick's Training

Mr Mallick trained in General Surgery and Colorectal Surgery in Yorkshire and Humberside, currently appointed as a consultant in Bournemouth.

He was awarded a PhD at the University College London in 2006 for his thesis on Ischaemia Reperfusion Injury of the Intestine and Strategies to prevent this.

Mr Mallick completed Advanced Colorectal Surgical Fellowship at the world renowned Cleveland Clinic in Cleveland Ohio, USA, where he learnt the latest advances in Surgery including painless haemorrhoidectomy, including laser treatment, fistula and fissure treatment.

Mr Mallick has performed over 200 laparoscopic colorectal procedures.

He has additionally been involved in pioneering new surgical techniques aimed at improving the outcome for patients. He is a JAG accredited Endoscopist and is a trainer. He is the Lead for teaching Surgery for Final Year MBBS students from Southampton University who are attached to Royal Bournemouth Hospital. He is also the Clinical Lead for Audit and Quality Assurance in Surgery at Royal Bournemouth Hospital. He is a Visiting Fellow in Bournemouth University.

Mr Mallick is actively involved in teaching at the FRCS Christie Course at Manchester which prepares surgeons to obtain FRCS, ( the highest qualification in surgery in the UK ).He also teaches laparoscopic skills for courses at Christie’s Hospital, Manchester.

He is also an examiner for the European Board of Surgery Section in Colon and Rectal Surgery.

Mr Mallick also teaches Surgical skills to nurse practitioners to obtain Surgical First Assitant ( SFA ) status.

Clinical Interest

Mr Mallick has continued to develop his interests and expertise as a consultant. He has a wide range of experience in the management of colon and rectal cancer, inflammatory bowel and diverticular disease, coloproctological conditions (fissure, fistula, pilonidal sinus and haemorrhoids) and pelvic floor disorders, including rectal prolapse.

Research Interest

Mr Mallick has a strong interest in surgical teaching and surgical research, in particular investigating minimally invasive treatment for rectal prolapse surgery.

Mr Mallick has 30 publications (click here to view the publications) in peer-reviewed journals and is frequently invited to speak at both national and international meetings. His work has been extensively cited in leading journals, text books, media articles and conferences throughout the world.
